We need to wake up from our denial that we depend on trees, water and a food supply for our existence. Climate change will alter all of it. We see ourselves, as a species, as being in charge and special (“created in god’s image”) — it is not true. We are privileged, yes, because we are mass consuming while the earth is paying a price. The generations from millenials on are less and less privileged. Each succeeding American generation is living in a degrading environment with fewer economic opportunities than their parents and that trend will only get worse.
