What makes the system so unworkable is how long it takees to get most benefits. Section 8 Housing is slow, so is disability. The only fast benefits are food stamps. Right-wingers continue to try to defund every aspect of the gov't benefits system, except the VA (and even that is not a sacred cow anymore).
