When it comes to aging in America, we are in deep trouble. Our society hasn't found ways to honor aging, and of course women bear the brunt. We completely lack ceremonies, norms, and customs that demonstrate old people are wise, valuable, and yes--necessary. In Britain, the word "pensioner" sounds like an insult, and the term "senior" is only slightly better. I live in a community of mostly 55+ (mostly 70+) and thankfully, I'm sheltered from the reality because we all treat each other as, for the most part, people. I see the bias not just in getting decent jobs, but in the way older (especially over 70) people get medical treatment. The state of geriatrics medicine is not encouraging. On the plus side, rebounders are the greatest piece of exercise equipment ever invented, so thanks for inspiring me to get back on mine!!!
