Yep! I relate most strongly to this with hunger. I rarely know if I'm actually hungry. I was taught to eat 3 meals a day but as a kid was overweight because I would eat whenever under or overstimulated. Then I'd feel really guilty. The notion of H.A.L.T is popular in 12-step groups, I think, because a whole bunch of us (way more than 2 or 3% of the population IMO) can't feel our emotions clearly enough. This gets chalked up to "moodiness" or being difficult or being sensitive when all it comes down to is a kind of blindness. Although I believe, neurotypicals could be more patient, I get why they are baffled by meltdowns because I AM BAFFLED by my own meltdowns. Thanks for such a great explanation of what is going on here.
