Yes, I think this is exactly right. It's the view that "you can't handle being such a social outcast, lady." It's my hope Elaine Aron will come around, but I know too many women like her, who are socially on the margins but pretend to fit in and are, for whatever reason, successful enough that they can remain in denial. Often their success is a matter of career and status.
