Yes, people need to plan. I planned. I got two master's degrees. I invested in those because I worked at a University so they were a bargain. They took me exactly nowhere because it turns out I'm autistic and have ADHD. Both--but especially autism--lead to significant discrimination in the workplace. I guess I should've known I was disabled, right? Well, let's see--I only spent thirty years and god knows how much on therapy for nobody to get this or see it because I was too busy "planning" to have an income. But I also got married, and my husband still works, so that was a good plan I guess. People don't plan well for very good reasons--usually it comes down to a lack of knowledge, training, support, and yes--DISCRIMINATION. Some of us are not only disabled by endemic, widespread discrimination in the workplace, but also the nature of being female, which often requires breaks from work due to caretaking. Many studies have proved women make less money over their lifetimes because they are expected to care for other people. You planned right and others chose not to--is that your story? Must feel good.
