You dodged a bullet by not fitting in with that pack of assclowns. Instead of saying he wanted to meet for coffee, he could've sent a nice card flatly stating. "I'm sorry. What I did was abusive. My mom told me she'd seen your photo on the terrorist watch list and I believed it. Again, I'm a moron and I deeply regret how I treated you." Wanting to meet for coffee is a big red unburdening flag. Then again, maybe he got into recovery and was making amends?
